In strict chronological terms, the Noé is the second oldest Louis Vuitton bag. Its birth date of 1932 places itself at the start of an exceptional decade that saw the creation of other Louis Vuitton icons: the Speedy, the Alma and the Keepall. In spirit, however, the Noé is as young as any bag around, still tinged with the carefree air of those newly liberated women who wore short skirts, shorter hair and carried it – just so – swinging from their shoulder.

Back in 1932, a champagne producer asked Gaston-Louis Vuitton to design a bag that could transport five bottles of champagne in style. His response was the Noé: a timelessly simple, pleated shape, supple and spacious, closed with a distinctive leather drawstring. In the intervening decades, the Noé has carried countless treasures in addition to champagne. Its intriguing name, however, still bears the secret of its origins: after the Flood, when Noah left the Ark, he planted vines. A discreet tribute to the instigator of an icon.

Walking down from huge escalators, the models for the Louis Vuitton Spring / Summer 2013 Collection displayed elegance and simplicity at the Paris Fashion Week. The ‘Grid’ was a large influence for this seasons collection and it was printed all over the catwalk, the clothes and especially the bags. The collection featured 60s inspired style, colors, florals and checkered prints. The iconic Speedy bags were seen in big and small checkered pattern. The classic colors used makes this collection fresh and chic. The infamous Damier print was also apparent on some of the pieces in both small and large checks.

Speedy: A History

Impossible though it may be now to imagine, this icon among icons was not always called the Speedy. Born in the 1930s, the little sister of the legendary Keepall was originally christened the “Express”, in reference to that era’s passion for new and faster means of transportation.
It even, for a time, bore the name “Vernet”, after a street near Louis Vuitton’s home in Paris. Neither suited it quite so well as “Speedy”, the name by which it is now affectionately known at the four corners of the globe.

Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2013 Bag Names and Prices

The silhouette of the Pre-Fall 2013 collection is based on the Spring/Summer 2013 fashion looks. It retains the same elongated lines, combined with different lengths, but maredly and purely reminiscent of the Sixties. Nevertheless, the feminine Pre-Fall 2013 silhouette recalls the understated elegance of Jeanne Moreau in Truffaut’s film “The Bride Wore Black.” Elements of men’s late nineteenth century apparel and opulent yet austere details create a more intellectual, dramatic tension.
